Working Hard To Help

Beginning in 2004  members of Bethel Center's Ladies Job Club have been learning how to knit . . . and for a special reason.  Bethel Center clients want to make a positive contribution to our community by helping others.

Knitters, like Susan (at left)  and Laura (below, right)  have been making hats, one after another.  The hats made so far were donated to a local hospital for its patients who are undergoing chemo-therapy.  Recently, Assistant Director Carole (Kewpee) Eisenbacher searched for a pattern to make hats for newborn infants.  These hats are smaller, with finer yarn, and will offer more challenges for our committed workers.   One day Judy Korte, a great supporter of Bethel Center and a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League at First Lutheran Church in South San Francisco, came by the Center delivering items we requested on our NEEDS LIST.  Susan and Laura, along with others, were excited to hand over the hats to Judy....and to show her how many they had made.

It was Judy who first gave us the idea for making hats for those under-going chemo-therapy.  Kewpee was busy teaching the group how to "knit" and "purl."  The clients became avid and enthusiastic knitters.  When they discovered they could make hats for people who were ill, the clients began knitting all day long!

We are grateful for the outlet suggested by Judy and the women of  First Lutheran.   If you know of any type of work that would be useful to the community and that our clients might be able to do, please call us at             (415) 586-4977.
